Canadian Track and Field Championships: One Day to Go

With only one day remaining, day five was a busy one. It consisted of running, jumping, throwing, and a few more NACAC qualifications.

The Senior Women’s 1500m semi-finals were two hot races! Athletics Ontario members will contribute to half of the final, set to run tomorrow at 12:25 PM ET. Along with Nicole Sifuentes, both Stafford sisters advanced, and the family rivalry will continue. Christine Laurie from Laurel Creek Track and Field club finished second in the U20 Women’s 1500m, posting a fast time of 4:28.85! In the Men’s U20 1500m, Joshua Desouza of Newmarket Huskies, brought home third place, with a time of 3:50.08, running 8 seconds faster than his qualifying time.

Crystal Emmanuel from the Flying Angels, showcased her speed once again in the 200m, taking the win, with a time of 22.74 seconds! Along with Crystal Emmanuel, Aaron Brown also will bring home double gold, winning the the 200m in 20.17 seconds. Congrats to both Crystal and Aaron, as well as other athletes, on their incredible efforts in the 100m and 200m.

In the field, things were just as exciting! Setting a new Championship record, Shawn Barber cleared 5.75m, on his first attempt, in the Senior Men’s pole vault! This height also earned him a gold medal and an automatic qualification for NACAC! The Senior Men’s Javelin concluded with Athletics Ontario member Evan Karakolis throwing 73.10m, which was 6 meters further than 2nd place finisher. Caroline Ehrhardt won the senior women’s triple jump with a jump of 13.44m, jumping .40m further than international competitor Ivonne Rangel, from Mexico.
