Nominated by both her coach and her parents, Elise was the Calgary Warriors U18 female athlete of the year. Says Coach Sieben: “Elise had a very strong beginning to her track and field career. Elise joined the Calgary Warriors Track Club in November 2022 and took the track world by storm. She ran stellar times indoor in the 60m 8.00s and 300m in 42.00s.
Elise carried that momentum forward and had a great outdoor season running a 12.32 in the 100m, 25.48s in the 200m and a smoking 57.78 in her 400m event debut.”
Further, “Elise being a new athlete to the track scene has made her mark on the track scene and shown great talent, and perseverance in overcoming adversity. Elise is striving to improve herself, helps foster a fun and interactive team environment and takes responsibility for her growth as an athlete.”
Says her mother: “Even though Elise ran a great race times in her first outdoor season, aided wind times in the 100 m didn’t allow her to make Team Alberta for the Legion National Team. Despite this, she registered to go to Legion Nationals and compete as a Warrior. While training hard to prepare for nationals in August, she was sidelined by a hamstring and adductor tear- hindering her from competing at Nationals in Quebec. Although devastated that she could not compete, she remained dedicated to cheer on her team regardless of not competing and travelled to Quebec to support her teammates.”
Alongside her athletic achievements, her discipline at school work has earned her honours in core subjects. Outside of school she is a leader in the community coaching kids soccer in the town of Cochrane and was nominated Athlete of the Month for the Cochrane Wolves soccer team.
Congratulations, Elise!
