We are saddened to share the news that long-time distance runner Dave “Python†Northey passed away at the age of 68 on September 11, 2017. He will be remembered as a well-respected and talented member of his community. He has a number of accomplishments from throughout his career, and along with his passion for running, he had a passion for music. Dave was an excellent musician, playing both the guitar and banjo, and he loved to play and listen to Bluegrass music.

Ottawa Marathon 1978 – 4th place – 2:18.55
Dave won a number of cross-country and track races while he was attending the University of Waterloo, also winning individual and team OUAA Championships. He was named Most Valuable Athlete in 1970 for the University of Waterloo. While on the roads, he either won or finished at the top in a number of road races, including but not limited to: the Toronto Star Trek 20K, the Ottawa Marathon, and the Berwick Marathon 9 miler.
No one is sure of the origin of his nickname “Python,†but that’s what everyone called him and he will truly be missed.
