Athletics Ontario is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the 8th Annual Induction Ceremony into the €œAthletics Ontario Hall of Fame€ on Saturday September 24, 2016 in conjunction with the AO Awards Banquet.
Athletics Ontario wishes to recognize past outstanding achievements and contributions to athletics (track and field, road running, cross country and race walking) in Ontario. These contributions are not limited to athletic achievements, but may also represent dedication in the areas of coaching, officiating, or builders of the sport.
The following members were selected to be inducted this year€¦.
Perdita Felicien - athlete.
Perdita won the 2003 World Championships in the 100m hurdles and was named Canada’s Female Athlete of the Year.
Ray Lewis - athlete.
Ray won a bronze medal as part of the 1932 Olympic 4 x 400m relay team.
Tom Longboat - athlete.
Tom won the 1907 Boston Marathon.
Priscilla Lopes-Schliep - athlete.
Priscilla won a bronze medal in the 2008 Olympics in the 100m hurdles and a silver medal in the same event at the 2009 World Championships.
Gerard Mach - coach and builder.
Gerard was the Head Coach for team Canada at the 1976 to 1988 Olympic Games, received an award from the IAAF for coaching excellence and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal. From 1976 to 1988 Gerard was the Head Coach for all Pan American and Commonwealth Games teams.
Nancy McCredie - athlete.
Nancy won gold medals in the shot put and discus at the 1963 Pan American Games and gold in the 1967 Pan American Games.
Andy McInnis - coach and builder.
Andy won the 3M coaching award in 1992, the 1996 coaching excellence award and has had coaching responsibilities at 5 Olympic, 4 Commonwealth games, 9 World Championships and 2 FISU Games.
Lloyd Percival - coach and builder.
Lloyd became the coach to an entire nation through his radio broadcasts and instructional booklets in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Kevin Sullivan - athlete.
Kevin is the Canadian record holder over a variety of middle distance events and in the Sydney Olympics finished fifth in the 1500m.
Betty and David Watson - officials and builders -
David wrote a National criteria for the Athletes Control Centre. Betty and David, as officials, were involved for some 35 years and were recognized with a variety of Province of Ontario and Officials Council awards.
