From June 7-9, 2019, the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Track and Field competition was held at York University. The event held 120+ events, including 3 Special Olympic events. A surplus of 2,000 athletes from all across Ontario gathered at York Lions Stadium to compete in their respected event(s). All athletes competing at OFSAA competed at a regional two-step qualifying meet before being selected to compete at OFSAA. It was an incredible event that brought together the best track and field athletes in Ontario and gave students the opportunity to represent their high school at the provincial level.
Athletics Ontario was proud to have attended this event and had the opportunity to witness some of the incredible performances put on by these athletes. We were honoured that so many of the students are members of our organization and we’re hopeful that many will consider joining some of our clubs.Â
We want to announce how excited we are that some Canadian and Interscholastic records were broken. A HUGE shout out to Athletics Ontario member, Myles Misener-Daley who not only broke a 30 year old Interscholastic record in the U18 Boys 400m, but also set a new U18 Canadian record with his time of 45.99s. Additionally, we want to recognize Trinity Tutti, of SISU Throws Club, who set a new OFSAA and Interscholastic record in the Senior Girls Shot Put with an impressive throw of 15.24m, which broke the record previously set by AO athlete and Olympian, Brittany Crew. Lastly, Jocelyn Chau set new OFSAA and Interscholastic records in the Senior Girls 3km with a time of 9:21.63.
Athletics Ontario used OFSAA as a way to connect with their current members as well as share information about becoming a member, joining a club and some of our upcoming events, including the Ontario Summer Games.
OFSAA does more than just bring a province together, it brings a country together! It was remarkable to see some of Canada’s National Track and Field Competitors out there; including athletes such as Andre De Grasse, Brittany Crew, and Damian Warner, who distributed medals and took pictures with the students. Â
Overall, OFSAA was a successful three-day event, and Athletics Ontario is proud of all their track and field members who competed. You can find full results from the event here and the results of our AO athletes from the event are as follows:
