Jr Championships & BMY Combined Events Championships RECAP

house of rootsAthletics Ontario hosted the Junior Championships and Bantam, Midget, Youth (BMY) Combined Events Championships + Prep Meet #2 this past weekend at the Toronto Track and Field Centre.

Athletes looked to achieve Standard in hopes of representing Canada at World Junior Championships in Poland later this year.

After enduring warmer than usual temperatures, athletes still managed to post several personal bests. Francesca Maltais of Speed River took home her first ever gold in the Junior Women’s 2000m steeplechase with a time of 7:21.01.

Khamal Stewart-Baynes of House of Roots track club once again put together an impressive performance in both the Junior Men’s 200m dash with a time of 21.67 and the Junior Men’s 400m dash with a time of 46.96.

Muhumed Sirage competing in the Junior Men’s 3000m Steeplechase

Muhumed Sirage came to Junior Championships with one goal in mind, go sub nine minutes in the Junior Men’s 3000m steeplechase. Although Sirage still took first place he was disappointed in not achieving his personal goal.

Ashlan Best of Speed River took the podium for the Junior Women’s 200m dash with a time of 24.49.
