ATHLETICS NOVA SCOTIA ANNOUNCES FINAL 2022 LEGION YOUTH NATIONALS TEAM

July 14, 2022 - Halifax, NS – After a hiatus, the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships are back in 2022.  The National Youth Track and Field Championships are fast approaching, and will be held in August in Sherbrooke, Quebec.   Athletes from across the province showed their very best in running, throwing and jumping this past weekend at the Athletics NS Track and Field Legion Team Trials Meet.  The event, held in Stellarton at Pioneer Coal Athletics Facility, brought together over 275 track and field athletes of all ages.  Those competing in the U16 and U18 Categories chased standards to be named to the 2022 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Legion Track and Field Team.

“On behalf of the staff representing the Nova Scotia/Nunavut Legion Command at the 2022 Royal Canadian Legion Nationals, we would like to congratulate all of the athletes named to the team for their incredible performances thus far this summer. It is great to see so many new athletes to the Legion program, as well as many that are returning with previous Provincial Team experience to help guide them.  All of these athletes have put in a tremendous amount of work over the last few months, and we are excited to see them put it all together in Sherbrooke.  For the hundreds of athletes that have gone through this program, the Legion Nationals are an experience unlike any other.  We are very thankful to once again receive the support of the Royal Canadian Legion to not only showcase the talents of these athletes, but to help them create memories and friendships that last a lifetime”. – Kirk Jessome – Head Coach

“The 44th Royal Canadian Legion Dominion National Track and Field will be taking place from August 5–7, 2022 in Sherbrooke Quebec. This is the only U18-U16 aged outdoor national track and field competition in Canada. The Legion selection trials for the Nova Scotia/ Nunavut Command Legion national team were held from July 9-10 at the Pioneer Coal Athletics Track in Stellarton. NS/NU Command RCL team selections have been completed and will be sending 38 athletes and 8 support staff to the nationals in August. I would like to thank the Pictou County Athletics Club, the Pioneer Coal Athletics organization and especially Athletics Nova Scotia for all they do to help our Legion Command field the team”. – Robert Hoeg, Nova Scotia/ Nunavut Command Sport Chairman / Track & Field Coordinator
